VAN PLETZEN is a duo made up of two super-producers, Peach Van Pletzen (Groothond, Yesterday’s Pupil, Bittereinder) and Matthieu “NAX” Auriacombe (Hello Beautiful, Beach Party). They have been behind many of the biggest hits in South Africa and have now created their own unique brand of feel good dance music with world-class production value that can simply be described as a kak lekker vibe! They are all about spreading good vibes and have become masters in the sacred art of being lekker! In fact they have evolved the word lekker into legeh and they take audiences along for the crazy ride that leaves them feeling elated, transformed and of course legeh!
VAN PLETZEN have built up a solid cult-following of fans who can’t get enough of their over the top music videos and social media presence with razor sharp wit and social commentary. Their hit song Zaberfluten introduced South Africa to the words Zaab and Legeh with the help of two local legends comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout and veteran actor Frank Opperman. VAN PLETZEN have collaborated with Haezer, Jan Bloukaas and of course with EARLY B. The two artists have joined forces on 7 songs and they regularly tour and perform together. VAN PLETZEN’S iconic single and music video titled Jy Bly Stil featuring JACK PAROW has reached 4 million views on Youtube.
Since the release of their debut single in 2018, VAN PLETZEN have become South Africa’s favourite satirical duo. In these times of turmoil, their mission is simple: To make the world a better place by spreading their kak lekke vibe and by showing you a really, really good time. They don’t take themselves too seriously and believe that neither should you.
They have become one of the most sought after live acts in South Africa headlining several of the top festivals and selling out national tours.
In 2022 they performed at Parowfest in The Netherlands in Utrecht and Groningen.
A few months later they returned with fellow South Afircan artist and frequent collaborator, Early B to a sold out show at The Melkweg in Amsterdam. They will return to The Melkweg in May 2023.
VAN PLETZEN also hosts the hugely popular talkshow PRAATING in Mengels (which is a mengsel of English and Afrikaans.
“I am intrigued by the linguistic links between Dutch and Afrikaans and I often explore overlaps in language using humor as a tool. For example the word “Praating” is a mixture of Afrikaans and English because the word “praat” is Afrikaans and the “ing” suffix is taken from the English word “talking” and by combining them the two languages are being brought closer together with a mutual interest; communication and breaking language barriers”. This mixed language has been dubbed “MENGELS” which is a combination of English and Afrikaans. I believe that Dutch and Afrikaans can “dance” in the same way.
The third season of Praating will be out in the middle of 2023 and will also feature Dutch legend Tim Beumers and new comer Joost Klein.
VAN PLETZEN are currently busy with their third album which will be released in May 2023.
