Just two releases, 12 years apart, have confirmed BLK JKS reputation as bearers of a singular sonic vision that is as timeless as it is sensational. The South African band’s critically acclaimed 2009 debut, After Robots, caught the attention of everyone from Diplo to Dave Grohl (who called it his favourite record of that year), The Mars Volta and TV On The Radio while last year’s Abantu/Before Humans was described by Uncut magazine as “true 21st-century roots rock, drawing on new tools and new techniques to illuminate the way forwards”. But it’s in performing their deeply experimental, spiritual form of rock music that BLK JKS come into their own.
