Release Radar: blaqkongo’s remix of Luh’ra’s “Give It All” celebrates one year anniversary of Nice EP
A steamy, dancefloor ready remix of Luh’ra’s “Give It All” is released today in celebration of the one year anniversary of the Cape Town-based artist’s EP Nice. This is one of two remixes that will celebrate the milestone. This will be one of two remixes, with the second set for release shortly.
The remix comes courtesy of producer and DJ blaqkongo, and he jumps straight into the original single’s guest verse from Andy Mkhosi, a multifaceted artist who works as a musician, filmmaker, photographer and cultural practitioner. The track then splays out into a bass and beat heavy bedrock atop of which sits Luh’rah’s smoky voice.
When asked about his remix, blaqkongo shared his thoughts: "It was really tough deciding on which track to remix from Luh'ra's project but Give It All really spoke to me in a way that I couldn't turn down. My vision with the remix was to reimagine the original as an early 2000s RnB song, add some bounce, and try to maintain the emotion of the original song. I really love what I was able to come up with and hope you do too - it's a special one!!"
“Give It All” appeared on Nice, Luh’ra’s EP that was released on July 22nd 2022. The song sees Luh’ra getting into the mindset of what it can feel like giving your everything to a situation that does not give back the same in return.
“As women we often fall into our maternal ways of wanting to give our everything to the ones we love, which can often be at the expense of our own well being,” says Luh’ra.
Mkosi rap verse on the track adds more of a narrative perspective to what that sort of situation looks like, with blaqkongo using it to give this track even more heft.
On its release in June 2022, the single version of “Give It All” was accompanied by a music video that was styled and co-creative directed by Luh’ra herself.
