Release Radar: Xzavier Stone turns in lush and beautiful remix of Morena Leraba’s “Meritlhoana”

Swiss artist, producer, DJ and vocalist Xzavier Stone has turned in a lush and beautiful remix of Morena Leraba’s “Meritlhoana”.

The remix is the latest in a set of newly imagined versions of each of the tracks off Morena Leraba’s acclaimed debut EP, Fela sa Ha Mojela. It follows Vox Portent’s emotionally powerful remix of “Heleru”, and Spoek Mathambo’s dancefloor-ready take on "Malishon'ilanga".

In fact it was Mathambo who introduced the Zurich-based Stone to Morena Leraba.

“I've met Morena Leraba at a braai that my long-time friend Spoek Mathambo was hosting,” he says. “Spoek came up with the idea to contribute a remix after we met the day before at Morena's listening session. I'm really glad how organically all of this came about.”

Mesmerised by Morena Leraba’s performances, Stone said, “My intention for this remix was to solely resample the original in terms of the instrumentation since it was so lush and beautiful and I felt like I couldn't add anything more. I was intrigued by the idea to add hard hitting drums to add a different dynamic to the original.”
You can stream Xzavier Stone’s “Meritlhoana (Remix)” on all platforms now.
