With her eighth release, South African singer, songwriter and producer, Laurie Levine delivers a collection of atmospheric, transporting songs that signal a thrilling new frontier for this already acclaimed artist.
Titled Dunes, the five-song EP builds on the country and folk that have earned her a devoted audience in her home country over the past 17 years and which have been on compelling display on her previous records. This time, however, Levine eloquently distils the emotional essence of these two storytelling genres while simultaneously summoning electronica’s most subtle, hypnotic elements - together offering up a record that glows with life.
At its heart, Dunes - both the EP and its title track - is about the body and its extraordinary, but everyday, ability to be both a container for who we are, especially our emotions, and a vehicle for all that we do, for our actions, our relationships, our creativity.
